Can You Get Flat Stomach Fibroids

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Will my stomach go down to normal size after a hysterectomy?
I have three softball size tumors in my uterus. If I have the tumors surgically removed will my stomach shrink or flatten to a normal size? At the present time I look 5 - 6 months pregrenant.

    • ANSWER:
My mom had a big tummy before her hysterectomy and afterwards, her tummy got much flatter. Her uterus had huge fibroids that made her tummy stick out like a pregnant woman.

      Hope that helps!

  2. QUESTION:
is there a such thing as a wrap to keep your stomach flat?
i saw on a movie this girl had an ace bandage or some sort around her midsection to hold he breasts down to impersonate someone.well i just had a baby and my belly hasnt gone down. i was also wondering i had a fibroid and i was wondering could that be the cause of my stomach not going down properly or what?

    • ANSWER:
It is called a "girdle." You probably don't want one. It isn't the fibroid. Exercise helps, but remember "Gone with the Wind" and Mammy saying, as she tightened Scarlet's corset, "Mizz Scarlet, you done had a baby, you ain't never gonna be no 18 inches again!"

  3. QUESTION:
I have fibroids in the wall of my uterus. How do I get a flat stomach again?

Had one tube and ovary removed in 1986 due to orange sized cyst. Too much family history on both sides of family for breast cancer and other cancers. Close and menopause and don't want HRT
    Hormone Replacement Therapy

  4. QUESTION:
why is it hard to get your stomach to go down when you have uterine fibroids?

    • ANSWER:
If the fibroids are big (like the size of an embroy of some weeks) its very possible the stomach is not flat, if this is what you meant.

  5. QUESTION:
HELP!!! Fibroid: Ladies (or men) PLEASE GIVE YOUR OPINION?
I am almost 24 and went to the OBGYN 3 weeks ago, i knew i had a fibroid because my periods were very painful and my mother had endeometriosis w/ fibroids. I was getting very bad pains the past 3 months when i was on and off my period. The doctor told me that i had a fibroid the size of pregnant women who is 6 months into her pregnancy. My stomach has become bigger but i did not know that the fibroid was that huge.
So now, i have a choice to have surgery and get it removed now or take Lupron depot to shrink it and go from there. I want to have at least 7 children (:0). If i have surgery, the doc said that i will always have to get a c-section rather than having them vaginally. With the Lupron, i would have to be on it for a year for it to shrink down to a size that is not going to cause me pain; but i'm afraid its gotten bigger.......i can't excercise, lay on my stomach and i have to buy bigger shirts...What should i do, i would like to have a flat stomach again

    THANKS

    • ANSWER:
id go the depot if you want 7 kids as many doctors advise against any more than a max of 4 c sections on any child bearing female due to internal scarring and the weakening of the uterus caused from the incisions

  6. QUESTION:
    Extreme bloating...what's wrong?
I've always been a slender person with a fast metabolism (i'm 18 yrs. old, about 5'5, and weigh around 112 pounds)...but lately i've been feeling very sad and confused about my abdominal area. I'm not as active as I used to be, which obviously caused a little weight gain, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm concerned about extreme lower abdominal bloating. I wake up in the morning with a basically flat stomach, then the second after I eat something (doesn't matter what or how much) I feel and look pregnant. This has been going on for a good while and I'm really upset about it... I want to be able to wear tighter clothes again like tank tops without feeling fat. Everyone keeps joking about it, saying things like "oh yea, you're SO huge!" because they think I'm being ridiculous because they think I look fine. I showed my mom my stomach today, and for the first time she actually didn't blow it off, she said we can ask the doctor..but I never trust doctors because they misdiagnose things so much and sometimes just blow things off saying "it's not a big deal". Any words of advice or past reference? I've researched so many things and nothing seems to help..

Other symptoms (i don't know if they are related to the problem or not):
    - Pain when running (doing cardio exercise)
    - Frequent need to urinate

    Other info:
    -On birth control
    - My mom recently had fibroid tumors removed from her uterus that made her stomach look pregnant (but I don't think that's it since I'm only 18).

    I appreciate any feedback! :)
I should have included this earlier, but I'm not pregnant. I've had my period normally every month with this problem still being present (like I said, this problem has been going on for a WHILE, like months)... so it's not that.

    • ANSWER:
      See a doctor.

  7. QUESTION:
after a hysterectomy does your stomach look flatter?

    • ANSWER:
I definitely got smaller--the doctor said my fibroid-studded uterus was the size of a 7 month pregnancy!! Getting rid of that was obviously a major relief, altho size was not the prime consideration..

  8. QUESTION:
Is it a baby bump starting?? Serious answers only please !!?
i've been having pregnancy symptoms for about 10 weeks now and the most recent blood test (Quantatitive) said not pregnant hcg of 2 but i've had two possibly even three 'funny' periods so my doc has booked me in for u/s next week but for the last few weeks been feeling very bloated and trousers felt tighter but this last couple of weeks i have grown an extra bit of belly before any of this i had flat stomach and flat bit of skin above pubic bone so you could see what was tummy and what wasn't but now my tummy starts from the pubic line and the rest of my stomach is really firm i can barely wear my trousers now as they feel so tight !! So my questions are was my blood test wrong and why else would my belly start to grow!!

Pls answer if i'm not pregnant i've got no idea what it could be if you would like to know more check my previous questions !!

    Thanks x
p.s ultrasound tomorrow to find out so very worried !!

    • ANSWER:
If you had an HCG of 2, there is no way you are pregnant. That is considered negative. Maybe you have a cyst or a fibroid. Both of those could make your tummy bigger and change your periods.....AND both treatable! Just relax and wait for the ultrasound tomorrow.

  9. QUESTION:
Help please? I think I could have some belly problem.?
I jog like everyday, I do sit ups almost everyday. Never in my life have I seen a flat waist on my body; not only that I am not sure because it's not like I be staring at peoples' belly buttons but my belly button isn't like completely out but it isn't completely in either. I used to run for long periods of time everyday, my arms and legs are completely toned. I don't eat fatty food, yet my belly is demented or like always a little chubby..I am around 15-21. What can I do? Is there some natural way to solve this without me getting surgery please?
Thank you to all that answer

    • ANSWER:
First of all, I can't really tell, even with your explanation, what your belly looks like and what is normal in your family.

However, just in case you want to know something new, I will point out something that people normally don't like to discuss!!!!
I am going to say something that may sound gross. If you don't like gross, skip my answer!!

If you have the "guts" then read on!!

I am NOT saying that You have them, BUT, Parasites are very common! I found some headlines on google to give you an example of what we know!

  10. QUESTION:
I think I have a paunch but idk?
I am a 22 year old female and there has always been a small bump on the lower part of my stomach around my belly button, and just started to cliff at the bottom. Everywhere else is flat on my stomach. I looked it up on the internet and figured it is a paunch. But when I push on it, it hurts in certain places. Idk what it could be, but I just want it removed. I am toned everywhere else on my body but not in that spot. When I looked it up on the internet it also said that it could be a hernia? Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
You need to be making an appointment with a physician and not waiting for responses on Yahoo.

A hernia can get worse and tear through the intestinal wall more and more. If it's something like fibroid tumors or what have you, they need to come out and be biopsied.

Please call a doctor first thing Monday morning.

  11. QUESTION:
Can ovarian cysts cause my stomach to bloat and pooch out?
I started working out a little over two weeks ago. My stomach feels flat when I am done working out, but as soon as I eat something it bloats back up. I do have a lot of excess fat on my stomach and since having my appendectomy in 2004 the fat has dropped (due to the incision going down the center of my stomach). Anyway, I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) 10 years or so ago. I was also diagnosed with a 4" fibroid on my uterus about six months ago. The doctor said it didn't need to be removed, so I left it at that. But what is my stomach always so bloated? The only time it isn't bloated is if I don't eat any food at all.

I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) about 8 years or so ago, but really don't have any symptoms from that except stomach cramping, bloating and gas (especially in the morning).

Will I still be able to lose weight and tone my stomach up even though I have the cysts and fibroid, or will my stomach forever stick out?

    • ANSWER:
You will be able to hun its just harder for women with pcos i managed though. Just keep working out. Oh and green tea helps with the bloating.

  12. QUESTION:
WHY IS MY STOMACH BIG AND HARD THEN FLAT WHEN I LAY DOWN?
I AM A MOTHER OF TWO. I AM OVER WEIGHT AND RECENTLY MY STOMACH HAS GOTTEN HUGE. IT IS HARD WHEN I'M STANDING EVEN SITTING, BUT WHEN I LAY DOWN FLAT ON MY BACK IT BECOMES VERY SOFT ALMOST FLAT. I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS DOING ON WITH MY BODY KINDA MAKES ME ? A PREGNANCY. BACK IN MAY MY CYCLE BECAME IRREGULAR FROM ALWAYS BEING ON TIME. MY BOOBS HAVE HAD THIS THROBBING PAIN AND EVEN A LITTLE DISCHARGE WELL MAINLY IF I MANIPULATE IT. I FEEL SUMTHING MOVING NOT SURE IF ITS GAS OR WHAT. MY BELLY BUTTON IS CHANGING. IT HAS BECOME VERY SOFT. KIND OF FLAT I GUESS ON ONE SIDE I USED TO BE ABLE TO GRIP IT I CANT ANYMORE, UNLESS LYING FLAT ON MY BACK. IVE SEEN THE DOCTOR WAITING FOR A FOLLOW-UP. IM JUS ANXIOUS. SHE SAID I COULD POSSIBLY HAVE FIBROIDS BUT SHE COULDNT DETECT ANY WITH AN EXAM. MY PERIODS ARE NOT AS HEAVY AS SHE SAID THEY WERE. SHE SAID THEY WERE HEAVY AND THAT CAUSES ANEMIA. IM REALLY NERVOUS. ANYBODY HAVE SOMETHING FOR ME.

    • ANSWER:
      Pauli,
Your body changes after childbirth, but be sure to keep yourself in shape as much as you can. I know it's hard with two little ones, but you could take them strolling, biking, or to the park where you push them on the swings or catch them coming down the slide. If I were you, I would have a good check up with a female doctor. Ask for a pregnancy test and MAKE SURE that is not the issue. Hopefully you are taking precautions against another pregnancy. Cut down on sugar--cut it out if possible. Cut down on salt--cut it out if possible. Start eating right with fruits and vegetables. Make sure your kids are eating healthy things too so they develop positive habits.
As you get older, the fat comes off SO MUCH HARDER, so work on it now. Drink water, exercise with your little ones, and cook with vegetables and fruits and see what happens. Give yourself six weeks though....That's how long it takes to see the effects of exercise! Better get started! Oh, and don't forget that doctor's appointment....That is step one so you don't drink or take meds that might hurt a developing little one!

  13. QUESTION:
    What could this possibly be?
Okay I wake up and my stomach is flat. As the day goes on I get more and more bloated and my lower ab region gets more and more tender and by time I go to bed it's so bloated and tender I feel sick.. Idk why or what it is... Does anyone know what this may be? It's only been happening for the past two weeks.. I'm not sure why or what it may be.. I'm not pregnant, but I am on the depo shot (if that makes a difference at all).. I just don't understand what my body is doing for the first time and no website has been helpful really.. So please if you know anything please share!?!?!

    • ANSWER:
      Hey Skye,

There may be many reasons why this is happening to you, mainly gynecological. Bloating as such could be a symptom of uterine fibroids or ovarian cysts. I will give you links to check other symptoms too.

How long have you been on depo shots? Maybe your body is not coping well with it. You may also need to discuss this with your gyno. There are "easier" birth control methods, like plasters (you put them on once a week, super easy and reliable).

But anyway, the symptoms might give you a hint if you have any other symptoms, write them down and get a pelvic ultrasound at your gyno.

It could also be caused by your diet, have you changed anything lately? Try easier foods, like rice, rice noodles, and avoid eggs for a while.

There will be a solution for you, don’t worry :-)
      Good luck!

  14. QUESTION:
Years After Abortion and My Belly Is Still "Big"?
First, you're probably wondering about my diet and weight and such. Well, I am 5'5, 113 lbs. Before the pregnancy, I was 110 lbs, gained 8 lbs (which was weird because I was so nauseated, I could never eat anything) and after the abortion, I settled at 113lbs. I assume this could be of some importance? Before the pregnancy, I ate whatever was there, I never exercised, My stomach was flat and I was skinny as a board.

I guess this is where I start my story..SIX years ago, I had an abortion at 11 weeks into my pregnancy. I actually looked about 14 weeks, I got pretty big..I even went from an A to a C cup. No, I'm not exaggerating. Anyway, The process seemed to have gone well, no complications, my cervix healed nicely, my body was back to normal.. well, everything but my stomach. Sigh, and now I have tiny stretch marks on my breasts. Of course without the baby, the baby bump went down, but hardly at all. I just assumed it was stubborn belly fat from the pregnancy or bloating..something.

So fast forward to the present. I exercise alot, eat fairly healthy, take fiber and I am definitely not pregnant now. I am still stick thin and when I'm not sucking in, I look 3 months pregnant. It's not normal, I just don't know what to think. I've gone to the doctor and was told I don't have cysts, but I don't trust his 3-fingered exam. I haven't had an ultrasound, just exams of the pelvis and cervix and regular pap smears. I've been to doctors complaining of severe cramps, heavy bleeding, back pains, you name it. All this time I was just being ignorant, but now it's finally kicking in that there may be something wrong.. I've considered cysts and fibroids, but I'm still searching for answers. Of course, I won't know for sure till I see a doctor, but it's going to take about 6 weeks to get an appointment. Sigh. Hope I covered everything in my very long "question" (sorry to all who sat and read the whole thing). Any thoughts, advice, experiences? Thank you, everybody!

    • ANSWER:
I have never had and never will have an abortion so I can't help you

  15. QUESTION:
YIKES! My tummy looks like I'm three months pregnant ??
This week my stomach has been bloated and I have no idea why. Its usually flat. No I'm not PMS'ing, I eat very healthy foods, veggies and fruits (Im a vegetarian) my digestive system is on the right track, no fibroids or gallstones. This is the most uncomfortable feeling. I'm a small framed woman 5"7 127 pounds . I read that taking honey and cinnamon powder will eliminate gas. I'm not farting! Any hoot any knowledge you all can provide will be most appreciated.
To "Label Jars Not People" I find your name very amusing! You labeled me several nasty names in your response earlier this week and you have the "NERVE" to go by that falsified title! Sounds like you LIVE to label others. Already stated that an out of town guest visiting me earlier this week asked that question about her situation. Any hoot I'm glad to see you are such a Huge fan of mine.

    • ANSWER:
Probably just something you ate...are you constipated at all? Or have you been chewing gum? Or stressed? Being stressed causes a person to swallow air but not even realize it. But if it continues for more than a few days or gets painful see a doc.

In the meantime, water with lemon is a good natural diuretic. Walking or any other type of exercise helps digestion a lot. Try a glass of peppermint tea. And keep up your healthy diet :)

  16. QUESTION:
I look pregnant. Negative tests. What in the world could it be?
Okay. I look fairly pregnant. Yes, it is possible I could be. To be completely honest, I have no idea how far along I could be.. I've been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend for the past year. It feels like something is in my stomach pushing it or stretching it? I know that sounds completely stupid, but I don't know how else to explain it. I've been feeling fluttery inside my belly.. I've gained weight but only at the bottom of my stomach, and none at the top.. I never ever gain weight.. And my stomach has never looked like this.. I've had four pregnancy tests say negative two last week, two this week. They are the "New Topic" Baby brand from the dollar tree, but my friends have had positives when they were pregnant, so I figured they should work.. I've had my period but it was lighter, and much shorter than usual.. Hardly any blood to be honest. I am constantly hungry! I've been kind of moody and sick feeling for awhile now. My stomach just started pooching out a week or two ago.. My stomach has been completely flat my whole life until this happened.. I weighed only 90 lbs, I now weigh about 100 lbs.. My breasts have grown quite a bit. Up a bra size. I feel huge all the time, like I'm lugging around some kind of extra weight.. My boyfriend who has nieces claims I look pregnant. My three best friends that have kids say I look pregnant.. My stomach has been firming up as well.. I'm so confused. What else could cause this? Do I look pregnant or like I'm gaining weight??

I am going to the dr tomorrow for the blood test and whatnot but I just want some opinions on here before hand..

Here are two pictures of my stomach now..

    http://tinypic.com/r/2cfysqr/4
Ouch. I guess I had that fat comment coming. Thanks for at least saying food instead of fat haha. Much appreciated. I don't have gas.. Or I wouldn't have been like this for awhile.. And yeah I have no idea.. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow.

    • ANSWER:
Well unless the home tests are false negative and you are very early in your pregnancy it may not show up. A blood test is more accurate. Seeing the picture doesn't really help because a belly can be bigger from other things. You may have an enlarged uterus with fibroids, adenomyosis (endometriosis inside the uterine muscle), ovarian cysts, gained weight in that area, water weight, or something else. Other organs can cause your belly to look distended if somethings not right.

I gained weight after being on a specific medication and it was not only my belly but everything else and I gained 22 pounds of water weight alone and had to be put on lasix because it was very dangerous for me.

Usually women don't feel any baby kicking until they are much further along in the pregnancy like 16 weeks or more. You may be having gas that feel like baby kicking. Even after my hysterectomy and other women who have had kids they may report feeling things that feel like fetal movements when it's really just gas.

Sometimes women can have a lot of symptoms because they think or want to be pregnant and it can work the opposite for one who is pregnant like it did with me. When I tried to get pregnant it turned out that whenever I thought I felt pregnant I wasn't and when I thought I wasn't it turned out I did. I didn't feel sick until after about two weeks finding out. As far as the light periods maybe there's another cause like no ovulation? Since you've been trying for a year there may be a cause as to why you haven't gotten pregnant yet. Some women don't ovulate normally so they may not have normal periods thinking they are pregnant. Either way I would hope the doctor you are seeing specializes in fertility so that if you aren't pregnant he can try and find out why you haven't become pregnant yet. Normally if a couple has tried for a year and hasn't conceived they should then ask their doctor about fertility testing.

It's possible to gain five pounds in a week and if you've been eating a lot this past couple of weeks that may have put on ten pounds not in just your belly but also your breasts. The only times my breast have increased were after I had a baby and the milk started coming in and a little when I was on oral contraceptives. Otherwise I have had a belly and have weighed as little as 115 from my 20's till I had my first kid and I'm 5'7" so I looked real skinny. For women who have had kids it can be harder to get rid of the belly weight. I have also seen shows called I didn't know I was pregnant where women had no symptoms, no fetal movement, no loss of periods, and had no idea they were pregnant until they delivered their baby. Either way good luck.

  17. QUESTION:
I have gained 20 pounds in seven months. What is it?
I started birth control, with the approval of my doctor and it has been around almost 7 months since I started. I have gained twenty pounds in those short months and I am not sure why. I am actually eating healthier and less (not starving myself but in healthy doses) of food, and I even excersise more. I work out every night, and I do extra curricular activities that require a ton of muscles strength, fitness, and endurance. I am able to complete those just fine, so I don't think it has to do with the fact that I am 'out of shape' (I really am not). I went up a full cup size too. And have started to gain some 'hour glass' figureness to my body , but my stomach is obviously fuller, and not flat. I would just like to know if I switched birth control if my weight would go down. I am a lot healthier than I was when I started the birth control and I don't notice TOO much of a difference but when I step on the scale it says I am 150, rather than my use to be 130. Is it muscle or is it due to my birth control?
P.S. I could still work on my abs, I know I don't have much muscle there, but I have tons of arm and calf muscle.

    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Be careful, I am not on brith control for that reason. A month before I got married I went on birth control, stupid dr put me on a high estrogen one (diana 35)...(I was 23!) anyways I went up 9lbs in that one month o.0 but I was still thin and always had been so I figure whatever...wedding stress....over the next 6 months I continued to put on 5-7 lbs each month....which adds up! By the end of the 6months I was having panic attacks, I was compltely out of control emtionally...so I phoned my old family dr (a actual good dr) and hes like what the heck! you should not be on that birth control its for pre-menopausal women (who need extra estrogen) anyways went off ...stopped gaining, (couldnt lose for the life of me, still havent, but have had 2 kids since as well. i gained the same amount of weight from two pregnancies as I did 6months on brith control)
Ive always been senstive to meds, and still to this day most drs I talk to say....Oh you cant gain from the pill....balony and it makes me pissed off every time I hear them say that.

also started to get stomach pain shortly after going off that pill, only to discover i had many 4cm in sized cysts on my ovaries, and a fibroid!! I cant only assume it was due to the high estrogen.

can you get flat stomach fibroids
